Overflow Crowds at Atlanta Humane Society
A story from the Atlanta Journal Constitution chronicles the overwhelming response to the story of abused dogs found at a puppy mill in Tennessee.
Unfortunately when the word got out about the Yorkshires available for adoption, more than 200 people were waiting in line before 9 a.m. when the animal center opened. When it became apparent that there were more people than dogs ready to be taken home, some in the crowd started to get unruly. Police were called to the scene to restore order.
Many who had been waiting were given numbered tickets to ensure they were able to adopt a dog the following day. Fortunately, it was also noted by Atlanta Humane Society president Carl Leveridge that the momentum had accounted for additional adoptions for more rescued animals than just the Yorkshires.
