Greatest American Dog Show Episode 2

The show is underway!!  We’re at season 1 and the second episode is titled “He’s A Farter, Not A Fighter”.  If you are a fan of any Reality TV shows like Big Brother or Survivor, then this is right up your alley – with competitions and expulsions.  The producers even do the same scene setup of opening the mystery envelope to see what the next competition is.

It’s actually very compelling when you add the unpredictability of the dog’s behavior as a reflection of the owner’s abilities.  They cannot act, pretend, scheme their way through the events like the other reality shows do .. it’s a matter of how well trained and behaved the dogs are that truly counts.

This episode had the drama of some infighting when Elvis (David’s Jack Russell) who popped Tillman (Ron’s famous Bulldog) near the eye.  We also had an emergency rush to the hospital for Star (a purebred Brittany, owned by Bill) who was bitten on the ear by some unknown creature.

You really get to feel for Bill and how much he loves his wife and his dog.  He was very emotional when the accident happened.

Star has had some training in tracking and performs with Bill at churches, civil groups, local summer reading programs at libraries, retirement homes and local fairs. The bio indicates that Bill’s wife, Sherrie, is a diabetic and Star has the ability to sense and alert her when her blood sugar goes low. Star will cling to and sit beside Sherrie until the sugar level has become a normal count.

The “Leave It” challenge at 27:20 is hilarious as Tillman has to do everything in his power not to dive in to the juicy steak dinner laid before him.

In the end the Judges deliberated and made their decision about Best in Show – Bill & Star.  Certainly a bit of a sympathy vote, but acceptable.

And the bottom three David & Elvis, Elan & Kenji, Beth Joy & Bella Starlet … With the losing couple of Elan and Kenji.  This was absolutely the correct decision.
